Sometimes I hear the phrase “a Christian country” being used to describe the system of government on these islands. Rev John Fry says being a Christian is a way of living(Image: Diocese of Chelmsford)But to be a Christian (which is the earliest word used to describe the followers of Jesus) means more than simply living in a place where Christianity is woven into the fabric of the historic apparatus of government; it is more about a way of living. Through the many issues facing the world, it is in multiple small acts that change can be brought about. Positive change happens when people of goodwill come together and act in ways which put other people first and seek the wholeness of neighbours. As an ancient saying puts it, “Better a dinner of vegetables where love is, than a fatted ox and hatred with it” (Proverbs 15.17).
