It’s a covers album, and a fine one at that, classic country from the time when pedal steel ruled, the vocals earthy and heartfelt. There are guests… Tony Joe White on guitar, modern-day country stars Elizabeth Cook and Ashley Monroe adding discreet backing vocals on the title track… and Jessi Colter, a star herself but also Mrs Jennings and Shooter’s mum (possibly ‘mom’) with a low-key, echoing duet on quietly jaunty I’d Love To Love To You, a JJ Cale song.
