“90% of Nicaraguans Feel Spied Upon” – True, or Fake News?
['John Perry', 'Francisco Dominguez', 'September']
Dissident Voice
The “spied upon” headline from El Pais is unequivocal.
Wilfredo Miranda, the journalist, is a Nicaraguan based in Costa Rica.
In Costa Rica it received US $1,114,000 from Washington to work with exiled political activists.
When the coup attempt failed, he fled to Costa Rica, allegedly with the help of a CIA agent.
The irony of El Pais’s article is that, unconsciously, it pays a backhanded compliment to a country where – according to this fake news survey – only “90%” of Nicaraguans feel spied upon.
