From Bandung to Disko Afrika: Establishing connections between Asia and Africa in Indonesia
['Filip Noubel']
Global Voices
Eighty years later, Indonesia and Africa meet again in a musical phenomenon: Disko Africa.
The most popular existence of Africa in Indonesia can be referred to the 1955 Bandung Conference, known here also as the Asian-African Conference.
At the western vicinity of Gelora Bung Karno Stadium — the biggest football stadium in Indonesia — in Central Jakarta lies Jalan Asia Afrika (Asia Africa Street).
Gedung Merdeka is a historic art-deco building as it was the venue for the 1955 Bandung Conference.
One example is Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) that has Asia Afrika Students Scholarship (AASS).
