One of the ways that sportsbooks remain so profitable is by limiting or completely banning people who consistently win. A New York lawmaker is now trying to give these sharp bettors a better chance by introducing a new bill that would prevent sportsbooks from curtailing winning accounts. Assemblymember Alex Bores has sponsored A9125 and the legislation is currently in front of the Racing and Wagering Committee. The bill would only let operators ban bettors if their activity is suspicious or if they are exhibiting signs of problematic gambling. The state’s gambling regulator presented its research findings, revealing that 0.64% of bettors had been limited as of December 2024, the equivalent of over 13,000 people.
