By Mike LondonSalisbury PostGRANITE QUARRY — Week 6 of the high school football season will include the long-awaited dedication of East Rowan’s stadium to former coach Willam Allison Cline, known to everyone as W.A. Cline is a 1958 graduate of Granite Quarry High, the school that consolidated with Rockwell not long after that to form East Rowan High. A year later, he had an offer to coach track and assist with football at South Mecklenburg. Fortunately, Bob Fink, Cline’s basketball and baseball coach at Granite Quarry, informed Cline the East Rowan football job was open and wanted to know if he was interested. East’s wins against Concord and Shelby are still among the most discussed games ever played by a Rowan football team.
