ARTESIA, N.M. — Police are now investigating after officers reportedly found human remains near the train tracks in Artesia this week. Artesia police responded Monday, at around 2:50 p.m., to the area of 300 N. First Street, regarding a report from a BNSF train engineer. The engineer discovered some skeletal remains near the tracks, according to police. Investigators searched the area and found “additional human remains” under a dock behind the old Baker and Stephens Tire Company building. OMI took the skeletal remains to the University of New Mexico’s Laboratory of Human Osteology for further examination.
