The State of Connecticut is imposing stricter penalties for street takeovers and reckless driving beginning Oct. 1. In regards to excessive reckless driving, motorists will face higher penalties if caught driving over 100 mph. Davis added that as of Oct. 1, state police officers will be able to conduct traffic stop motorists if they suspect motorists are using cannabis while behind the wheel. "The way things were previously is that was not enough as a stand alone violation to initiate a traffic stop, we had to observe an additional violation to garner that probable cause to initiate a stop," Davis said.
