News ReleaseGOSHEN — Former Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office deputy William Fackelman faces a Level 6 felony charge of ghost employment after investigators alleged he falsified work records to cover hours spent as a security guard at Lake City Bank. An internal review reportedly found multiple instances in which Fackelman was clocked in at both jobs simultaneously. Fackelman, who has said he intends to take the case to trial, is accused of collecting pay from both employers during overlapping hours. Fellow former Elkhart County deputy Donald McQuarrie, who was accused of ghost employment at around the same time as Fackelman, was exonerated in October of 2024. During Wednesday, Sept. 24’s hearing in Elkhart County Circuit Court, legal counsel on both sides agreed with Judge Michael Christofeno that the case remains scheduled for jury trial on Monday, Oct. 13.
