MENDON, N.Y. — A person has died after Monroe County sheriff’s deputies say the person’s car caught on fire after it hit a tree in Mendon Ponds Park. Deputies say the person was driving on Hopkins Point Road in Mendon Ponds Park when they left the roadway and hit a tree. Deputies and the fire department got there and found the car on fire and worked quickly to put the fire out. Deputies say they found the driver dead inside the car after the fire was put out. Hopkins Point Road was closed for awhile but has since reopened.
