Also planting native species of plants at the wetland restoration were staff from the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority, the Maitland Conservation Authority, the County of Huron and the Huron Stewardship Council. “We are going to plant about 1,000 plants,” Rachel White, a stewardship co-ordinator with the Huron Stewardship Council, said at the planting event. “These will help diversify the wetland, help wildlife and filter water.”She said 18 people gave their time to help with the initiative. Those taking part planted native species of plants at three of six wetlands on the property. Plant species included Joe-pye weed, tall sunflower, sweet oxeye, blue flag, dense blazing star and cardinal flower.
