John's big brother, Bob, and his friends pretty much put a whipping on John inside the wrestling room on a daily basis. "I use things I learned in Bob Siddens' wrestling room every day in my life now. It (wrestling) is a big part of us and it is a big part of a lot of people who have come through the West High wrestling room and through Waterloo in general." When I was training for the 1972 Olympics, I'd come back and train in the West room. Bob Bowlsby remembers those times Gable came to the West High room, too, when Gable would usually have Marty Dickey or Ben Petersen in tow, as well.
