Once implemented, the plan would bisect the occupied West Bank in half and further consolidate Jerusalem into Israeli hands. After Israel occupied eastern Jerusalem and the entire West Bank in 1967, it redrew Jerusalem’s municipal boundaries, excluding these towns and placing them under military rule as part of the occupied West Bank. Israeli authorities have been carrying out acts of annexation in the occupied West Bank for over five decades. In July, Israeli lawmakers overwhelmingly voted in favor of imposing annexation on the occupied West Bank in a Knesset session. Three and a half million Palestinians are squeezed into a mere 18 percent of the occupied West Bank, making up the city centers.
