The police chief of Cheverly, Maryland, shot and killed a man who was suspected in a stabbing, authorities say.
Chief David Morris and Cheverly Police Department officers were in Riverdale on Tuesday afternoon to investigate a stabbing earlier in the day in Cheverly, the town of Cheverly said in a statement.

Morris had an encounter outdoors with a man “believed to be the suspect, who was armed with knives.”“The suspect charged Chief Morris,” who opened fire, the town’s statement said.
Information on the stabbing in which the man was suspected was not immediately released.
