On the night of April 14, 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in Chibok town, Borno State, north-east Nigeria . Responsibility for the kidnappings was claimed by the Boko Haram sect. CNN showed the video, reported to be made in December of the girls wearing the hijab and of one mother reaching out to a computer screen as she recognizes her daughter. CNN reported that the “proof of life” video was sent in December to negotiators trying to free the girls. Two mothers and 16 fathers of the girls have died since the mass abduction, some of them victims of Boko Haram attacks.
