Edinburgh finally approves new statue of a woman — so why all the outrage?

“We were told then there would be a memorial to Elsie Inglis in Edinburgh,” she said.
But she said the statue should not depict Dr Inglis in military styled attire as this related to “only three or four years of her medical career”.
The Statue for Elsie Inglis charity, which has led plans for the memorial, submitted its planning application on February 28.
The great, great, great niece of Dr Elsie Inglis, Dr Clea Thomson, gave an emotional deputation at the meeting as she said her family supported the statue “without change or amendment”.
Jo Mowat, a Conservative councillor who represents the city centre, said: “She [Dr Inglis] is a total radical.
