The acting premier of the Eastern Cape Mlungisi Mvoko, cautioned government, at both national and provincial level, and the private sector, to come up with solutions to the headwinds facing the country's automotive sector. Mvoko emphasised the importance of the automotive sector especially in the province and said they are the major source of skills and investment, especially in East London, Gqeberha and Kariega. According to Mvoko, the future of the automotive sector is in new energy vehicles and he said, as things stand, Chinese automakers are leading the way globally. The Japanese company purchased the GMSA's manufacturing plant in 2017, and after Isuzu Motors South Africa was established a year later, took over production of Isuzu vehicles. Tom, who is also the head of the automotive business council, Naamsa, says the industry uses this opportunity talk about anything and everything about the sector.
