More than $1.5 million will be spent on improving the health of waterways, protecting native wildlife and creating greener spaces in the City of Canning. The Australian Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program has provided a total of $1.525m for three projects. The projects will tackle long-standing environmental issues such as slope instability, loss of native habitat and poor water quality. Work will focus on removing invasive weeds, replanting native vegetation and improving water flow to help the river system recover and thrive. They are part of the $10 million Cleaning up the Canning program to improve the ecological health and condition of the Canning, Southern and Wungong rivers that is expected to be completed by March 2028.
