In her statement, Kamaltai Gavai said the letter claiming she would not attend the RSS event due to her ideology was likely written by a well-wisher of her family.
Kamaltai Gavai expressed sadness over what she called fact-less criticism aimed at both her and Dadasaheb Gavai.
The RSS had reportedly invited Dr Kamaltai Gavai, wife of late Ramakrishna Gavai, former governor of Maharashtra, fondly remembered as Dadasaheb Gavai, to attend the RSS Vijayadashmi celebrations in Amravati.
A letter, later circulated on social media platforms in the name of Kamaltai Gavai, stated that she was a staunch Ambedkarite and would not attend the RSS programme.
Prof Kamlakar Payas, Secretary Dadasaheb Gavai Charitable Trust, Amravati confirmed to The Indian Express that the letter is authentic and was released on behalf of Kamaltai Gavai.
