She shared that she’d previously tried the well-known weight loss medication Wegovy a few years ago but had a rough experience.
After that, she switched gears and booked a telehealth appointment, where she was prescribed hormonal support—specifically estrogen and progesterone—to help with symptoms linked to perimenopause.
“Many female patients report better energy and mood after using GLP-1 medications, even though the drugs aren’t technically treating their hormone issues,” says Dr Jain.
“These drugs aren’t for people with certain medical histories,” Dr Jain cautions.
“These drugs can help some women feel better, but they’re not a replacement for hormone therapy if that’s needed,” Dr Jain emphasizes.
