Judge Wong Siong Tung also sentenced John Ting, 36, to another two years in prison for possessing 26.7g of ketamine, four years for possessing 119.52g of ketamine, and one year for possessing 1.55g of ecstasy. Ting was convicted on all four charges on Sept 26 at the end of a full trial, with sentencing set for today. The trafficking charge was framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2), which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, and with not less than 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed. Ting committed the offences in a four-wheel-drive vehicle parked behind an entertainment centre on Jalan Pahlawan here at around 8am on May 8, 2023.
