President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday pledging U.S. military protection for Qatar three weeks after Israeli airstrikes hit the Gulf nation’s capital. The order authorizes the U.S. to take all lawful and appropriate measures to defend the interests of the United States and Qatar. The Israeli strike shocked Qatari officials who view the U.S. as their primary security guarantor. Netanyahu later called Sheikh Mohammed to express regret over the death of Qatari security officer Corporal Bader Saad al-Humaidi al-Dosari. Trump visited Qatar during a regional tour in May.
