Locals and dignitaries gathered late last week for the opening of the new terminal at the Gore Bay Airport.
According to the release, the expanded, modern facility will house more people, pilots, crew, and passengers as traffic has increased over the last few years.
Nearly five years have passed since approval for funding from the Rural and Northern stream of the Investing in Canada Program (ICIP) was received for improvements to the airport.
The construction project included the new terminal, helipad, and emergency stand-by generator.
The building will also house the region’s Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) office, a pilot fatigue management/flight planning area, food server, as well as washrooms, a small meeting/day rental office and space for the Gore Bay Flying Club.
