Rivian on Wednesday released video footage of its forthcoming R2 SUV negotiating a water crossing at one of its proving grounds, as part of the brand’s continued focus on durability testing. The video comes as Rivian produces “hundreds” of “production-intent builds” for the R2 model, which it says are undergoing real-world testing and final validation. For R2, Rivian has not yet confirmed an equivalent spec. After exiting water, Rivian recommends drivers clear the horn, clean the heat exchanger, test brakes, and wash surfaces to remove debris. Analysts such as Cantor Fitzgerald’s Andres Sheppard have flagged that Rivian may first launch higher-trim versions even though the base price goal is $45,000.
