Two Vancouver Island photographers claimed podium spots in this year’s BC SPCA Wildlife-in-Focus Photography Contest. Victoria’s James Ferguson took home the gold medal in the “Wild Settings” category with his action shot of a grizzly bear fishing in Campbell River. The photo contest doubled as a fundraiser for the BC SPCA’s Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre (Wild ARC) in Metchosin, and this year it raised more than $4,000 for the facility. “We thank all the participants for sharing their amazing photos of B.C.’s diverse wildlife and helping to raise over $4,000 to help the BC SPCA’s Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre care for injured, sick and orphaned wild animals,” said Andrea Wallace, manager of wild animal welfare at the BC SPCA. Another photo taken on Vancouver Island also won the “People’s Choice Award,” which was based on votes made by donation.
