Some PPL customers could have their monthly bill jump up nearly 7% should a recent request from the company be approved.
The company said in a notice Tuesday that it is requesting an annual base rate increase of $356 million per year.
The company said the rate increase, the first it has requested in over a decade, is to pay for improvements for electric service and reliability.
“In recent years, we have faced record-breaking storms in frequency and intensity,” PPL Electric president Christine Martin said in a news release.
“To continue providing our customers with safe and reliable electric service, we need to make important investments in our system.
