Bill Schmidt stepped down as general manager of the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday following a majors-worst 43-119 season. Schmidt, 66, became interim general manager on May 3, 2021 before being promoted to GM on Oct. 2 of that year. “Bill has been an integral part of the Rockies family for over 25 years with countless contributions to the organization over that time,” team owner, chairman and CEO Dick Montfort said in a release. The last time that Colorado went outside of the organization was when it hired Dan O’Dowd as general manager in 1999. “It’s been an honor to serve in the Rockies family for over 25 years.
