Financial struggles at the White County Senior Citizens Center have escalated into a lawsuit. Earlier this month, Lucinda “Cindy” Conley was served with a formal complaint alleging she failed to file required federal payroll tax forms while overseeing the center’s finances. The complaint states Conley, who was responsible for finances and taxes at the center for about two decades, failed to file IRS Form 941 and payroll taxes for the periods ending September 30, 2020, and December 31, 2023. The lawsuit seeks $43,736.76 in damages, plus additional interest, penalties, attorney’s fees, and court costs. By May of this year, during a Carmi City Council meeting, representatives warned the center was struggling to stay afloat and facing potential legal issues.
