IIT students bag prize in engineering contestJuly 16, 2003 15:43 ISTLast Updated: July 16, 2003 15:45 ISTThree students of the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, have bagged the second prize in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers student design international contest held in Switzerland. The winners are mechanical engineering undergraduate students who won the prize for designing and building a machine that uses hydraulic power to lift minerals from ground in mountainous areas, according to Professor Vijay G Ukadgaonker of the IIT. The prize consists of a plaque for the department, US $100 in cash and a citation to individual students, Ukadgaonkar said. This is sixth consecutive year that IIT boys have won the first or second prize --Āstarting from 1998 --Āever since the ASME student section was started in IIT, Mumbai. The first prize went to the Hong Kong student section.
