Should we cling to the US hoping to ride out the storm until we land on a post-Trump future? If it had just been pressure from corporate and other private interests, you’d be right, that’d be plain hypocrisy. Media commentators, comedians and others who criticise Trump are at risk of losing their licences or being taken off the air. At the same the president and his family have been engaged in money-making activities that ignore traditional ethical and conflict-of-interest protocols. If the US is to survive, the Congress, the courts and members of Trump’s own party must stand up to him.
