Newsroom October 1 07:43A recent amendment concerning LGBTQ+ rights has passed in Slovakia, as it officially stipulates that from now on only the two biological genders will be legally recognized.
The amendment passed in the Slovak parliament last Friday.
“There are two genders, male and female, determined at birth,” Fico stated in January when the amendment was introduced.
“This amendment threatens Slovakia’s EU membership and brings us even closer to authoritarian Russia.
The paradox is that these measures were adopted at a time when acceptance of LGBTQ+ people in Slovak society is actually increasing,” Martin Macko, executive director of the LGBTQ+ rights organization Iniciatíva Inakosť, told The Guardian.
