After 52 years at the helm, Damianos submitted his resignation, stating, ‘With full awareness of the end of my 52-year tenure at the helm of our monastery, I humbly submit my resignation as Hegumen and Archbishop of Sinai.’ He had previously announced the timeline for the transition, with today, September 12, marking his resignation, and a General Assembly of monks scheduled for September 14 to elect a new Hegumen and Archbishop of Sinai, Pharan, and Raithu. In his resignation letter, he expressed gratitude, acknowledged challenges, and voiced concerns about the future of the monastery, including legal threats and the need for recognition and stability. He also called for unity and asked for forgiveness, emphasizing the importance of the monastery’s preservation for future generations.
