Pierakkakis acknowledged that reducing VAT by 30% in the border islands of the Northern Aegean Region, the Evros and Dodecanese regions, addresses a long-standing injustice, as previously such relief only applied to five islands hosting refugee facilities. Pierakkakis emphasized that public response to the tax reform is very positive and will improve further as citizens experience the benefits. He highlighted that the targeted VAT reduction affects the entire local society, as most businesses in these islands are owned by locals. Pierakkakis stressed that annual economic growth is key to supporting citizens, allowing its benefits to return to society, especially those most in need. He added that Greek products, especially those from the islands, should reach global markets.
