None more so than the high-tax enthusiasts of the Resolution Foundation, a Left-wing think-tank whose proposals for higher taxes deserve special attention. Its chairman, Richard Hughes, once worked (yes, you’ve guessed it) at the Resolution Foundation. If you wonder why we pay more and more for less and less in the public sector, these figures are the explanation – an already inefficient public sector has steadily got much more inefficient. A massive productivity drive in the public sector would save billions and improve public services. But that would require, above all, confronting the vested interests and arcane ways of the public sector unions.
