STANHOPE — All the athletic excitement on the Southern Nash High campus Monday evening, Sept. 22, wasn’t limited to the rollout of girls flag football at Firebird Stadium. On the adjacent soccer pitch, boys teams from Southern Nash and Fike, together again in the 5-A/6-A Big East Conference, re-ignited their rivalry in a thriller that ended in a draw. The schools had played together for years in the same conference, most recently the 3-A Big East Conference, until the fall of 2021. Fike, now 5-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in Big East play, snapped a scoreless tie with senior Micah Foula’s penalty-kick goal inside the final minutes of regulation. As far as the Demons and Firebirds, they’ll meet again Oct. 15 at Fike’s home-away-from-home this season, Gillette Soccer Complex’s Field No.
