Facing the top-ranked team in Class A is never easy, and Columbus East got a firsthand taste of Oldenburg Academy’s powerhouse girls soccer squad Tuesday night. The Olympians showed grit in the first half, keeping the Twisters to just two goals, but Oldenburg’s relentless attack broke through in the second half to secure an 8-0 win. The Olympians (5-10) held firm early, with defenders throwing themselves in front of shots and goalkeeper efforts keeping the match within reach. However, Oldenburg’s depth eventually wore East down, highlighted by a hat trick from Lydia Niese and two goals from Claire Niese. The Olympians now turn their attention to their Hoosier Hills Conference finale against Seymour before preparing for sectional play against Class 3A No.
