AcrEnergy Ltd is hoping to develop an anaerobic digestion facility at Attiquin Farm, which will generate electricity and heat from organic waste materials. An anaerobic digestion plant uses bacteria to break down organic materials, such as food waste, manure, and sewage sludge, in the absence of oxygen to produce biogas (mainly methane and carbon dioxide) and digestate. The biogas can be purified into biomethane for the gas grid or fuel, or used to generate heat and electricity. The anaerobic digestion plant would process approximately 170,000 tonnes of organic waste (feedstock) per year. The feedstock is transported in tractor-trailers or by HGV tankers, which is what is currently transported along the roads to fields and instead would is delivered to the anaerobic digestion plant.
