Flexible, unrestricted funding, along with autonomy, has the ‘greatest effect’ for grantee growth and confidence, according to a new study funded by major US philanthropist Mackenzie Scott. Research – published by the Global Fund for Children, via its Global Impact Study – shows that an overwhelming 94 per cent of respondents said that the fund’s flexible funding approach positively impacted on their work. Large funding streams – approximately around $100,000 or more, have the greatest impact on grantee confidence. ‘GFC’s flexible funding allowed us to test and incorporate this within our on-ground work. Scott’s funding goes towards UNCF’s aim to create a pooled fund that will eventually distribute $5 million for every member.
