Trump’s Gaza plan: Sovereign restoration or neo-colonial management?
['Marwa A']
Middle East Monitor
On 29 September 2025, the White House published a 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the war in Gaza and rebuilding the territory as a “New Gaza”.
The plan lays out a series of commitments: humanitarian corridors, the demilitarisation of Gaza, an internationally supervised committee, and the establishment of a “special economic zone”.
At the same time, the UN’s Independent International Commission of Inquiry has concluded that Israeli actions in Gaza meet the threshold of genocide.
Proponents of the White House plan argue that transitional technocracy, rigorous benchmarks and international stabilisation forces are necessary after mass destruction.
No plan — however ambitious its vision of a “New Gaza” — will be sustainable otherwise.
