Tom Murphy was the first to notice that the box had been stolen, a particularly sore spot for the Macroom man. Tom said the cast-iron post box is part of the 'tapestry of rural Ireland'. Gardaí also informed Tom that a number of other post boxes had been stolen in a similar fashion. Local Gardaí are investigating the thefts, and we ask that anyone with any information about the thefts please contact their local Gardaí. As well as being part of the national mail infrastructure, local post boxes are at the centre of local history and architectural heritage and are much valued within local communities. "
