In the spirit of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebrations, the Crude Oil Refineries Owners Association of Nigeria (CORAN) has warned that the Nigerian petroleum industry may suffer imminent collapse if steps are not taken to stop the disruptions in the sector by key stakeholders. The association believes that without prompt and decisive government action, the disputes will continue to threaten private refinery operations and widen the country’s dependence on imported petroleum products. CORAN emphasised that the survival of private refineries is indispensable to achieving energy self-sufficiency, safeguarding foreign exchange reserves, and protecting household welfare. By protecting private refinery operators and ensuring uninterrupted access to crude and gas supply, the government would be reinforcing one of the country’s most strategic pillars of economic security. It insisted that investigating all claims and counterclaims impartially is the only way to foster mutual trust and long-term peace within the petroleum industry.
