A lane of the southbound carriageway on the major route was closed between J24 and J23, which is around Kelvedon, near Colchester, after a collision. There were around five miles of congestion on approach, which was adding around an hour to normal journey times. According to the AA traffic map, drivers were facing severe delays in the area.
