I try to learn about myself from my ancestors because they are part of my wider family stretched backward in time. The truth is we can marvel at some of our ancestors’ stories while realizing much of their lives are hidden from our view. Even as we understand how little we really know about them, much can be learned from the stories of our ancestors. It is one issue upon which normally different points of view agree — free speech is what binds us as a democracy. He and his brother, Dr. Richard Lyon Morgan, co-wrote wrote a book about their ancestor: “Resisting Tyranny, The Story of Matthew Lyon, Early American Patriot.”
