FREDERIKSTED — A St. Croix woman was charged with child abuse after allegedly forcing a boy’s hand onto a hot stove, causing visible burn injuries. Shelva Smith, 52, was arrested and charged with child abuse, the Virgin Islands Police Department said. The charge stems from an incident that took place on September 28, 2025, at 4:28 p.m., when 911 dispatchers got a call about a juvenile victim with burns on his right hand, according to the VIPD.
