That is why MBKS has agreed that the new rates will only start from Jan 1 next year. “The rates charged remained the same, but the updated assessment was necessary to reflect the true built-up areas,” he explained during the second round of dialogue sessions today. During the first dialogue session on Sept 6, MBKS clarified that the increase in assessment rates for residential properties was the result of a lawful reassessment exercise, not an arbitrary decision. Residents who attended the dialogue session thanked MBKS for listening to their concerns and granting more time, noting the decision reflected the council’s genuine care for the community and its commitment to working closely with residents.
