Gum disease is often viewed as a localized issue, affecting only your teeth and mouth.
Research has revealed that individuals with severe gum disease face a dramatically higher likelihood of developing heart disease, with the danger increasing the longer inflammation remains untreated.
According to Dr Bozic, the most effective way to minimize this risk involves maintaining optimal oral health.
He further suggests cutting back on sugar consumption, giving up smoking, and following a nutritious diet - all strategies that benefit both oral and heart health.
"The link between oral health and heart health is real - and it's something we can't afford to ignore," Dr Bozic said.
