Built by Peterson Builders Inc., in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., the R/V Endeavor was one of three intermediate-class research vessels commissioned by the National Science Foundation. The R/V Endeavor was officially christened at the GSO pier on Dec. 11, 1976. The longest cruise by the R/V Endeavor took place from April to July in 2009. Departing from Florida, they traveled to Brazil and then across the Atlantic to Namibia, conducting experiments for the Navy and the National Science Foundation along the way.
