In a Facebook post, the armed forces said Hashim died of a stroke at Gleneagles Hospital in Kuala Lumpur. Hashim, the younger brother of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s wife Dr Hasmah Ali, was a key figure at the signing of the Hat Yai Peace Accord on Dec 2, 1989. Hashim was also the chairman of Sukom Ninety Eight Bhd, the company formed to manage the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games.
