A Springfield man was sentenced on Sept. 30, 2025, to one year and three months in federal prison for stealing mail from residential mailboxes across the city. Anthony Renell Williams, 45, pleaded guilty on March 31, 2025, to one count of mail theft stemming from an incident on March 16, 2023. Authorities said Williams was seen walking through multiple Springfield neighborhoods, stopping at mailboxes and taking items belonging to residents. The United States Postal Inspection Service later reviewed security footage from area homes, which showed Williams removing mail from residential boxes. Investigators said Williams admitted he stole mail to commit fraud in order to obtain money to support his drug addiction.
