A federal court has sided with Missouri in a lawsuit challenging the Biden Administration’s attempt to redirect money appropriated by Congress for border wall construction. Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announced the ruling Tuesday, calling it a significant win for taxpayers and for upholding congressional authority over appropriations. At the center of the case was $40 million set aside during Fiscal Year 2020–2021 for the construction of physical barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border. The Missouri Attorney General’s Office had argued that federal law prevents the executive branch from spending funds outside the limits set by Congress. The court’s decision preserves the appropriated money for border wall construction and border security measures.
